General Tips

General Tips for a Successful Construction Project:

Make time for your project.
Often it is necessary to make several trips to your suppliers in order to properly coordinate the design elements of your project.

Education/Research:
Major construction can be an emotional time that can try most anyone's patience. The education process you go through on the front end will help you arrive at realistic expectations of your suppliers and contractors. You need to be informed so as not to create an adversarial relationship with those involved with your project.

  • Make all of the Contractors, Sub-Contractors and Suppliers you interact with explain their role in your project.
  • Make sure you understand the entire "building process" and schedule so you will have no surprises. Ask questions as many times as needed to get the full picture.

Pre-Planning:
Make sure you make the many choices you are required to in the process of construction as far in advance as possible. You do not want to feel like you are being rushed. Time will give you the ability to coordinate all the different design aspects of your home and give you the finished product you desire.

Schedule:
Ask for and adhere to a construction time-line; and when your decisions will be required in-order to keep this time-line. Allocate enough time to make each decision so you are not rushing the process.
